"The curse causeless shall not come." - Proverbs 26:2

           1. God is not capricious. There are reasons for things happening the way that they do.
  • My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.  (Hosea 4:6)
  • Without a vision people perish. (Prov. 29:18)
  • All these curses shall come upon you: "But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee." - Deut. 28:15

          2. The cause of the curse visiting us falls into one or more of four catagories defined by four metals, described in

                Joshua 6:18-19 and Daniel 2:32-35.

  • Gold     = Self glory.
  • Silver  = Self provision through greed. "Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole

                                       nation." - Malachi 4:8

  • Brass   = Self justification.
  • Iron     = Self promotion through the domination of others.

The main thing that brings a curse is "self". Therefore,

3. Self Esteem: "The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the PRIDE of life are not of the Father but are of the world and the world passes away and the deeds there of but the word of our Lord endures forever." 1 John 2:15-17

Paul wrote:

  • In my flesh lies no good thing.(Romans 7:18)
  • Do not esteem yourself more highly than your ought.(Philppians 2:3; Romans 12:16)
  • I count all my achievements as dung.(Philippians 3:8)

Jesus said:

  • I am (not Jesus, me) an unprofitable servant who has done what is my duty to do. (Luke 17:10)
  • Without him I can do nothing. (John 15:5)
  • I am to deny myself (esteem) (Luke 9:23)

> Denying oneself = humble oneself = death of self esteem.

> Before honor there is humility. (Proverbs 15:33; 18:12; 22:4; 1 Peter 5:5)

> Before we can judge angels (1 Corinthians 6:3) we must judge ourselves and live as servants

without an identity of our own.

·         We do not own anything; but I am called to inherit all things. (Reve. 21:7)

·         We cannot create anything or condemn anyone. (John 3:17; Matthew 7:1)

·         We are stewards of an inheritance and friends of the most high God through Jesus Christ. (John 15:15)

·         We are required to be found faithful. (1 Corinthians 4:2)

·         We are not competitive, because servants do not compete.

·      We are to serve the Lord our God by serving each other and to esteem others better than ourselves to the extent that we lift others above ourselves and preferring others before ourselves (look to the needs of others.) Romans 12:10. This disallows the modern culture of competitive sports and business practices.
